Seeking Volunteer Finance Coordinator

Make Shift Boston is a collectively-run arts, events, community meeting, and coworking space striving to offer Greater Boston an affordable place to be, a safe space to organize, and a sanctuary space for LGBTQ people, People of Color, Immigrants, and persons with disabilities.

The Volunteer Finance Coordinator is responsible for: tracking funds that come into and out of the space, handling Make Shift’s bank account, managing invoicing process, paying event assistants and other bills, updating the collective regularly on the overall financial status of the space, working closely with the events coordinator to track income from outside renters, monitoring sustainability of space, and participating in the collective governance structure of the space by attending monthly member meetings.

Time Commitment: approx. 10 hours/month.

  • Ability to manage money (experience with accounting and invoicing software a plus)
  • Clear communicator
  • Ability to think outside the box about new ways of generating income for the space
  • Prior knowledge of Make Shift and a strong desire to help us keep our lights on.
  • Experience in Community Organizing
  • Experience in the Arts
  • An anti-capitalist, anti-racist, anti-gentrification mindset

Also helpful: A need to use a community space for their own personal projects

This is a work-for-membership position, meaning, the selected finance coordinator will be given full access to Make Shift’s calendar to book free events and meetings at any time. Additionally, the selected finance coordinator will be given a key to the space and can use it for coworking and individual projects at any time that the space is not booked for other purposes. This membership is valued at $250/month. Our ultimate goal is to offer a stipend for this position, and the input and strategizing of the new finance coordinator on how to make that possible will be warmly welcomed!

People with disabilities, People of Color, Indigenous Peoples, Hispanic/Latinx, formerly incarcerated and LGBTQ candidates are encouraged to reach out. If you are excited about this role, but are unsure whether you meet 100% of the qualifications, we encourage you to inquire.

No resume or cover letter required, just email makeshiftbostonevents@gmail.com a short paragraph about who you are, why you are interested, and any relevant financial/accounting experience.
